It was that time again. The leaves were starting to turn brown, the winds were beginning to bring in cooler air, and the clothing being worn was shifting to longer sleeves. The teens pulled out the decoration buckets out of the attic and spread them around the living room floor. Mother hung the recently purchased cinnamon broom onto the wall by the front door as the buckets were opened and the contents were sorted.
The eldest children pulled out the largest of the three fake trees, put the pieces together, and set it up in its usual place. The other trees were placed in other rooms, the next biggest placed in the game room and the smallest of the large ones was placed in the dining room. The younger children set to work unpacking the decorations from the buckets and passing them to the elder siblings who took the decorations to their designated trees and began to decorate.
The living room tree was the Fall tree, covered in orange and brown colors. The shiny brown tinsel wrapped around the tree over the orange lights and was covered with orange leaves, pumpkins, and other thanksgiving styled ornaments. A Santa dressed in an old brown gown sat atop the tree. The game room tree was the Candy tree, covered in fake marshmallows strung together over the multicolored lights, decorated with fake candy canes and sugar-based ornaments. A white angel sat atop the tree. The dining room tree was the Blue and Silver tree, covered in silver tinsel over the white lights, covered in blue and silver ornaments with a silver star sitting on top.
The living room tree would be the only one to change until the Spring season arrived. Upon the beginning of Advent, the Fall decorations would be taken down and replaced by pink lights, purple and pink tinsel, and purple and pink ornaments to become the Advent tree. Three days before Christmas, the Advent decorations would be taken down and replaced by white lights, red and gold tinsel, and red and gold ornaments to make up the Christmas tree. That tree would stay up until all twelve days of Christmas were completed, then the ornaments would be taken down and replaced with purple to prepare for the Lenten season and the tree itself would only be removed in time for Easter. The dining room and game room trees would be taken down at the same time as the Christmas tree, no sooner or later.
For now, the Fall tree was decorated as the other children decorated the rest of the house with Fall themed décor. Each Holliday season, the family had decorations for. The living room tree would stay up year-round if the family had ornaments for Easter or Summer, which they did not. As mother lit the incense stick in the living room and set up a handful of lit candles around the house to help encourage the mood, the children continued to decorate the trees and the house with the colors of Autumn.
