Time was running out as the clock counted down. Only an hour left before the deadline. Only forty-five minutes left until she had to leave. Only thirty minutes left to eat. She had most of the paper done but was rushing to finish it before turning it in. She would have asked for more time, but she had not known her work schedule was overbooked during the week and now was the only day she could work on her homework. All but this assignment was done, and it would not be proofread if she turned it in in time, according to the clock.
Jewlia continued to write, glancing back at the clock after each sentence she wrote. She finished the paragraph, looked at the clock, and bolted from her seat. She ran into the kitchen, grabbed a quick reheated meal and popped it into the microwave. She ran back to her room and continued to write until she heard the beeping of the microwave. She finished the paragraph she was on and ran back into the kitchen.
She pulled the meal out of the microwave, grabbed a fork, and brought the food with her back to her room. She set the meal down next to her computer and continued to write. At the end of the next paragraph, she took a bite of the meal between a handful of sentences. She checked the clock for the time. Thirty minutes left before the deadline and only fifteen minutes before she needed to leave. She turned back to the document and checked her progress. She only needed to add one more paragraph before she could add the conclusion.
She continued to write until she had finished the conclusion, then checked the clock once more. Nine minutes left before she needed to leave. She skimmed through the document for any obvious issues. It would have to do. She saved her work and submitted it just as the timer on her phone went off. The assignment turned in before the deadline, she was free to go.
She pulled on her boots, grabbed a jacket, stuffed her phone, wallet, and keys into her pockets, and ran out of the house. She unlocked the car as she ran and climbed inside, starting the engine as she buckled up. She drove off into the evening. She would make it to the performance in time so long as no one got in her way and the lights behaved.
She proceeded to stop behind a slow-moving van inching toward the yellow light.
