You did nothing wrong.
Record everything,
Keep your head down,
You will be targeted so keep calm and explain,
You did nothing wrong.
All you did was be there
I was taught to be wary of white and black men alike
Both are equally as likely to attack
Prejudice and hate reign
No safe place to just be
You did nothing wrong.
Yet you are persecuted
For doing nothing but breathe
Remember George Floyd?
He couldn’t breathe either
Under the knee of a white cop
Before him came Ahmaud Arbery
He was followed and shot for jogging near his home.
With Breonna Taylor, she was sleeping in her apartment
Cops forcefully entered her home in search of someone who was not there
She was killed when her boyfriend tried to protect her from the invaders and the cops fired.
They were not the only ones wrongfully killed:
Daunte Wright was pulled over for a traffic violation and shot trying to get back in his car
Andre Hill was shot after exiting a garage with a phone in hand
Manuel Ellis was beaten to death walking home from a store
Atatiana Jefferson was shot through the window of her home for leaving her front door open
Stephon Clark was shot twenty times while on the phone in his grandma’s backyard
Botham Jean was shot eating ice cream at home when a confused cop entered the wrong house
Philando Castile was shot for mentioning he was legally armed
Tamir Rice, twelve years old, was playing with a toy gun in the park when shot
His fourteen-year-old sister was tackled and cuffed as she watched her little brother die
You did nothing wrong.
The pain and suffering you’ve endured should never have happened
You did nothing wrong.
The hate against you remains unjustified
You did nothing wrong.
It is not over yet, not by a long shot
You did nothing wrong.
Just keep breathing, living, loving
You did nothing wrong.
